“Currently the staff of Criminal Investigation Department detained of members of a criminal gang who stole the Book of Apostle from Vernadsky Library. "The book is on the site of detention" - said the source.

According to the reports, the criminals were detained when they attempted to sell the book. "The Apostle" was to be sold for $ 150 thousand., However, they agreed with the buyer at a price of $ 100 thousand.

"The detainees, four men were part of a closed group. They could not be easily approached, all gang members are experts in antiques. They worked mainly on demand,” said the source.

In May 2016, the Book of Apostles printed by Ivan Fedorov was stolen from the National Library of Vernadsky in Kyiv. The library staff claim that the stolen book was published in 1574 in Lviv.

Later, the head of the department of old and rare books library Natalia Bondar reported a mistake. According to her, as it turned out, the Moscow publication of Fedorov’s Apostle" dated 1564 was stolen.
