“UNP [Ukrainian People’s Party] prepares an address to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and intends to conduct consultations with the Parliamentary factions as to establishing of a temporary investigation committee of the Supreme Council to investigate the reasons of the dismissal of the directors of 5 most outstanding Ukrainian museums,” stated a Ukrainian deputy, the leader of the Ukrainian People’s party, Yurii Kostenko. According to the politician, the “parliamentary committee with the participation of the Office of Public Prosecutor General are to check information about the government’s intention of so-called monetization of the museum values of Ukraine.”

So reported the web site  Museum Space of Ukraine with reference to the press service of UPP.

Kostenko reminded that the “dismissal of the directors of 5 most outstanding Ukrainian museums are already compared by mass media with the personnel purges of 1917.” He is sure that museum experts known in Ukraine and abroad would obstruct any manipulations involving museum values which are national assets.” The politician called “it a shame that the government appointed newcomers, which are unknown in the professional environment, to head the most outstanding museums of Ukraine.”

In his opinion, “the Office of the Public Prosecutor General is to check the information regarding the intentions of the Government to put into effect the initiatives of the private Canadian company Tamoikins Museum headed by Mykhailo Tamoikin as to introduction in Ukraine of a system of assessment of museum values and integration thereof in the state financial circulation as material assets.”
