During the general audience, Pope Leo XIV addressed the faithful, stating that he “considers the announcement of an immediate two-week ceasefire” in the Middle East “as a sign of living hope.”

This was reported by Vatican News.

“In light of the recent hours of heightened tension in the Middle East and around the world, I warmly welcome the announcement of an immediate two-week ceasefire as a sign of living hope,” the Pope stated during his meeting with pilgrims on Wednesday.

The Pontiff emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through a return to negotiations.

“I urge you to support this sensitive period of diplomatic efforts with your prayers, hoping that a willingness to engage in dialogue will serve as a means to resolve other conflicts around the world,” said the Pontiff.

Pope Leo XIV also reiterated his invitation to a Prayer Vigil, which will take place on Saturday.

“I renew my invitation to everyone to join me in the Prayer Vigil for peace, which we will hold here at St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, April 11,” he announced.

As reported, the United States, Israel, and Iran have agreed to a two-week mutual ceasefire and the reopening of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the United States would respond militarily if Iran attempts to use the ceasefire to regroup its forces.
