Pope Francis on Thursday lamented the "painful news" coming from Egypt following the bloody crackdown there by security forces on protesters and appealed for "peace, dialogue and reconciliation."

"Unfortunately, painful news has come from Egypt. I wish to ensure my prayers for all the victims and their families, the injured and all those who are suffering.
