Pope prays for world peace, remembering Ukraine

Pope Francis greets all those present at the beatification mass for John Paul I, before turning to the Virgin Mary and praying for world peace.

Prior to the conclusion of the celebration of the beatification of John Paul I in St Peter's Square, Pope Francis extended his greetings to all those present, and thanked them for their participation.

His gratitude was expressed, in particular, to his "brother Cardinals, to the Bishops and priests who have come from various countries".

The Pope also greeted all the official delegations who joined to pay homage to the new blessed and his "respectful thought" went to the President of the Italian Republic and the Prime Minister of the Principality of Monaco.

The Pope then greeted all the pilgrims present before turning in prayer to the Virgin Mary, "so that she might obtain the gift of peace throughout the world, especially for war-torn Ukraine".

May she, the first and perfect disciple of the Lord, help us follow the example and holiness of life of John Paul I, concluded the Pope.
