President Yanukovych Decides to Meet with Council of Churches at Time of Its Planned Visit to Brussels

President Viktor Yanukovych has called a meeting with the members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations on March 21.

President Viktor Yanukovych has called a meeting with the members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) on March 21.

Last Monday the Christian denominations received invitations for the meeting from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. The agenda and exact time of the meeting have not been specified.

The Іnstitute for Religious Freedom learned about this from representatives of the denominations. The meeting will interfere with the planned visit of the delegation of AUCCRO to Brussels.  

The visit of the delegation of the AUCCRO to Brussels was planned for March 21-23 in the beginning of the year.

On March 16, at the meeting with Vice Prime Minister Raisa Bohatyriova, the hierarchs of the churches informed the state officials about it and asked them to assist in organizing the trip aimed to present to the European officials the positive experience of the interdenominational dialogue and understanding in Ukraine.

The delegation of the AUCCRO planned to meet in Brussels with President of the European Council, Herman Achille Van Rompuy and other top European officials and members of the European Parliament.
