The extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Ukraine to the Vatican, Andriy Yurash, believes that the Pope is trying to implement his strategy for interaction with Russia.

He said this in an interview with the "Espreso" TV channel.

"The Pope's visit to Hungary was symptomatic, but nothing extraordinary happened during this visit. The Pope outlined the basic points of the Vatican's position on issues related to the war in Ukraine. The Pope is trying to implement his strategy for interaction with Russia. It has been confirmed that there is a desire to communicate through the Russian Orthodox Church," Yurash noted.

According to the ambassador, the Pope has no other option but to reach out to the Russian mentality and to Russia itself.

"Of course, for us, this is the Church of the aggressor country. This is the Church that blesses the killing of thousands of our people. But the Pope has no other option but to reach out to the Russian mentality and to Russia itself. The Pope has tried many times to communicate with Putin, and he has spoken about this. Through the Secretary of State, Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Putin has refused to communicate with the Pope four times," Yurash emphasized.
