Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Orthodox Church is doing a lot to strengthen the cultural and humanitarian ties of Russia with compatriots from around the world, and now many are trying to “break these ties.”

He said this at the Sixth World Congress of Russian Compatriots in Moscow, Ukrayinska Pravda reports.

According to him, now many people are trying to break those ties in various ways, “to tuck them into their national apartments.”

“I want to emphasize one thing: political maneuvering in such a sensitive area has always entailed severe consequences, and primarily for those who do it,” Putin threatened.

He added that Russia's duty was “to do everything to preserve spiritual and historical unity.”

Previously, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow said that the provision of the Tomos to Ukraine was a “global order” aimed to destroy the Russian Orthodox Church.
