The meeting of representatives of European countries responsible for dialogue and reconciliation is held in Auschwitz (Poland).
Professor of history from the Ukrainian Catholic University Oleg Turij and chairman of the Commission of Christian Unity, Fr. Dr. Ihor Shaban are representatives from Ukraine.
“We should think why in our societies national memory and the level of awareness of negative events functions well while the level of responsibility for these events if they do not affect us personally, is very low. We know the history and understand the morals, but do not respond to the evil happening around us today. Also there is no doubt that the memory of the victims of totalitarian regimes can not be closed subject, but on the contrary, this memory must have a profound impact on each of us, our identity and our future”, noted fr. Ihor Shaban.
