The restoration of one of the main shrines capital - St. Andrew's Church has been completed. It has lasted one year.

“The façade restoration has been fully completed. For two weeks we shall remove the scaffolding from a group of columns,” Deputy Director of the National Reserve St. Sophia of Kyiv Vadim Kirilenko told Segodnya. “During this period the church has been also equipped with additional lighting. The next stage is the repair stairs and reinforcement of the slope. As for the restoration of the stairs, the waterproofing has already been done. In November, the iron ladder will be mounted and then people get open access to the observation deck.”

According to Kirilenko, there were many ‘surprises’ during restoration. “When we went up to the tower, from where the plaster was falling down, we were horrified: the structure of towers was so deformed that they could fall off. We had to develop a new project to strengthen them and collect metal bandage,” Kirilenko continued.

The reserve reported that this year the amount of USD 4.7 million was allocated from the state budget for the church restoration. In addition, nest year it is planned to clean painting inside the sanctuary and refurbish the iconostasis. There is no calculation how much it will cost yet.
