Roman and Greek Catholics of Ukraine to Participate in National Day of Prayer for Orphans

The event is aimed to remind the believers of the special love of God for the children left without parents and to provide necessary help to them.

The head of the Conference of Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, Archbishop Mieczyslav Mokrzycki, supported the initiative of the national public assocation Ukraine Without Orphans to conduct on November 6 a National Day of Prayer for Orphans. As RISU was informed on November 1, in his official letter to the organizers of the event, the hierarch assured that he will pray in his personal prayers “for each unfortunate child depraved of the family shelter and devoted parental heart.”

The archbishop also addressed his clergy with a call to conduct prayers for the children in the Roman Catholic Churches on November 6.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church also contributed to the Day of Prayer for Orphans. Auxiliary Bishop of the Lviv Archeparchy of UGCC, Bishop Venedykt (Aleksiichuk), made a call “to pray jointly with all the churches of Ukraine for orphans so that as many children as possible are be able to experience the happiness of the family and family shelter. We will pray that these children will be able to become good Christians and members of the church and Ukrainian society.”

As RISU reported, the event is aimed to remind the believers of the special love of God for the children left without parents and to provide necessary help to them. There are 28,625 orphaned children in Ukraine who lack families and are included in the national adoption data base. The total number of children with the status of orphans exceeds 100,000.
