Russia will return the icon presented to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sarajevo to find out its origin through Interpol.
"The icon will be returned to the donors for further clarification of its history through Interpol," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Sarajevo on December 14. The visit provoked a scandal, as two members of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina refused to meet with him.
At the same time, one of the members of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the head of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik presented Lavrov with an ancient icon.
As it became known from the note of the Ukrainian embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, this is a 300-year-old Ukrainian icon from Luhansk. On its back, the icon carried the seal of the Ukrainian People's Committee of Culture of 1920.
The embassy of Ukraine requested information about how the icon got to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The prosecutor's office of Bosnia and Herzegovina instituted a case over the ancient Ukrainian icon.
