Russian Orthodox Church postpones the Council of Bishops again

19.04.2022, 15:02

The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has decided to postpone the Council of Bishops scheduled for May 26-29 due to the difficult international situation.

This is reported by the ROC website.

"On April 17, 2022, members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church discussed the issue of holding the Council of Bishops remotely... Since the international situation impedes the arrival of many members of the Council of Bishops in Moscow, on April 17 this year, members of the Synod decided to postpone the dates of the Council to the autumn or winter period of 2022," the Russian Orthodox Church said in a statement.

The date of the Council of Bishops will be considered at the summer session of the Synod.

The previous Council in 2017 was attended by 377 bishops from 22 countries.

The Council of Bishops was supposed to be held on November 15-18, 2021, but it was postponed to May 2022 "due to Covid" in October.
