The regional state administration of the central Ukrainian city of Khmelnytskyi supported a proposal of the scholars to rename the Peresopnytsia Gospel into Dviretsko-Peresopnytsia Gospel. According to Unian, this was reported today by the head of Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration, Vasyl Yadukha.

“An appropriate proposal has been sent to the head of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Borys Paton. The final decision will be very important for the residents of the Khmelnytskyi Region,” he stressed.

He reminded that 455 years ago, in the village of Dvirets of Iziaslav District of Khmelnytskyi Region, in the Dvirets Monastery of the Church of the Holy Trinity, the first letters and words of the Peresopnytsia Gospel were written.

According to the official, “there is no need to agitate or tell someone what the Peresopnytsia Gospel means.” “It is a spiritual shrine of our state and Ukrainian symbol as every new head of state takes the oath on it to serve the nation,” noted V. Yadukha.

The 450th jubilee of the Peresopnytsia Gospel is one of the most important events of 2011. According to a resolution of the Supreme Council of Ukraine, the year 2011 has been declared the Year of the Ukrainian Old Print.
