Maryna Ostapenko confirmed that the meeting of the SBU agent with the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University was held in accordance to the current law in order to prevent violation of the law.
“Norms of the law were explained to the rector; in particular, the fact that involvement of students in unlawful activity, in possible mass riots, is illegal. Everything was in accordance with the norms of the law,” stated Ostapenko.
As was reported earlier, the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Fr. Borys Gudziak, Ph.D., published a memorandum where he states that the officials of the Security Service of Ukraine attempted to “persuade him into cooperation.” He considers it to be methods used in totalitarian times.
The text of the memorandum of the rector was received by fifty rectors of Catholic institutes of Europe who visited Lviv as part of the General Assembly of the European Federation of Catholic Universities.
