The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Concept of the activity and development of the State TV and Radio Company “Culture.” So says Resolution 436 of the Government of 4 July, reported the Institute for Religious Freedom (ІRF).
According to the concept, the “loss of the moral and ethical guidelines in the Ukrainian society is a result of the spread of the so-called mass culture and commercialization of the cultural sector.”
To settle the problem it is proposed to make one of the priorities of the TV and radio company production of programs which in particular will “be aimed to raise the authority of intelligentsia, prestige of the mental and creative work and reorientation of the society from the material to spiritual-cultural values.”
However, the Concept does not envisage production of spiritual-educational programs or cooperation with Churches and religious organizations within the framework of the activity of the TV and radio Company “Culture.”
Let us remind the readers that as a result of his first meeting with the members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, President Yanukovych issued an Instruction to “meet the information needs of the believing citizens, particularly, to create and spread spiritual-educational programs.
