State withdraws 18 sites of the 'Ancient Chernihiv' Reserve from temporary use - Ministry of Culture

The state has withdrawn 18 sites from temporary long-term use at the "Chernihiv Ancient" reserve.

This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine while referring to the Ministry of Culture.

The Ministry's commission for the acceptance and transfer of state property of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Chernihiv Ancient" has completed its work. The commission inspected 18 sites, including such national heritage sites as the complex of buildings of the Yeletsky Monastery from the 12th to the 17th century, the complex of buildings of the Holy Trinity Monastery from the 17th to the 18th century, and the 11th-century Transfiguration Cathedral, which were under the use of the UOC MP (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate). Additionally, the 12th-century Church of St. Paraskeva and the 18th-century Church of St Catherine were included.

It's noted that some of the examined monuments are in unsatisfactory condition. Specifically, comprehensive repair and restoration work are required for national shrines such as the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Assumption Cathedral of the Yeletsky Monastery as well as waiting for repair and restoration work are the monastery bell towers and structures of the Vvedenska Church and the Archbishop's House, the cells of the Holy Trinity Monastery, Walls with gates and towers of the Yelets Monastery.

Furthermore, the conservation and restoration work for frescoes and iconostases needs to be carried out in the Holy Transfiguration and Holy Trinity Cathedrals.

The commission has handed over for signing the acceptance and transfer act of state property of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Chernihiv Ancient" to the acting director of the Reserve, Andriy Lisovyy, confirming the transfer of state property for the reserve's use—a total of 18 sites, as stated in the announcement.
