During the month of an information campaign in Sevastopol, over 10 thousand signatures were collected in support of returning the building of a former Polish Catholic Church of Clement of Rome to the believers.
“Two thousand of them are signatures of the town’s guests. The rest of them are the signatures of the residents. And the opinion of the residents of Sevastopol is very important for us. As we see that there is support, we suspended the campaign: in the end, people also need to work, tend to their households, and rest,” said the priest.
According to Father Ziminskyi, the collected signatures will be used during the upcoming public hearing and will be sent to the leadership of the state.
In July, the Roman Catholic community of Sevastopol started an information campaign for the return of the church building to the believers.
In the cinema Friendship, located in the building since the end of the war (1 Shmidt Street), the parishioners erected a tent where they placed large photos of the church from 1912 (when it was built) and from 1944 (when it was damaged by bombardment), and organized the collection of signatures to be presented at the public hearing.
The campaign was aimed to inform the residents about the historical truth that 100 years ago there was a church in the place of the cinema.
