Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which will elect a new Primate, will be held on August 13 at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, in the Refectory Church of St. Anthony and Theodosius. Registration of participants will begin after the memorial service and service at the burial place of His Beatitude Volodymyr.
The voting will be open to all the bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, including 52 ruling bishop (heads of dioceses), 22 auxiliary bishop and bishops who, for various reasons, for example, for health reasons, no longer carry the service, but are part of the episcopate.
Only representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will participate. Guests, observers or representatives will not be present. The Council will be held behind closed doors. During the Council the official photo protocol will be organized.
Meeting of the Council will be held in the Refectory Church of St. Anthony and Theodosius, voting booths and ballot boxes will be installed in the temple.
Elections will be held in two rounds by secret ballot. In the first round of the bishops receive ballot with the names of all the existing bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - 74 candidates.
If in the first round no candidate wins more than half of the votes, the second round will have three candidates of whom bishops will elect one. The second round will be held on the same day. At each stage, any candidate may withdraw his candidature. The number of candidates in the second round will not change - they will still be three.
After the election of the Primate, to all-night vigil before the holiday of August 14, in the Cathedral of the Assumption Monastery a thanksgiving service will be held.
Officially, the process of election of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will end on August 17 when the enthronement - the installment on the Kyiv metropolitan seat – will be held. The enthronement will take place in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
The representatives of 15 local Orthodox churches are invited to participate in this solemn event
