The Head of the UGCC: Russian occupiers still use food as a weapon of mass destruction

21.11.2023, 15:57

"The Russian aggressor continues to starve anyone who refuses to take bread from its usurping hands on the occupied territories."

This was stated by the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, during a special event at the Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation "Open Ukraine," as reported by Glavkom.

Shevchuk emphasized that the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine was a tool of mass destruction used by the Stalinist regime against the Ukrainian people. "90 years ago, the Stalinist regime used hunger as a weapon for the first time. Considering the scale of this tragedy and the millions of lives that the Stalinist regime covered the Ukrainian land with, we begin to understand that it was a weapon of mass destruction. Perhaps the cheapest in the world... We also understand that such a crime was a consequence of the destruction of a sovereign, independent Ukrainian state," he stated.

The head of UGCC noted that today, the Russian occupier attempts to turn everything it touches into a weapon, including food. "We witness how on the occupied territories, the Russian aggressor again starves anyone who refuses to take bread from its usurping hands... Therefore, considering security and recalling the Holodomor-genocide is a special task," he added.
