The Dutch House of Representatives has passed a resolution recognizing the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars by the Soviet regime in 1944 as an act of genocide.
This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, reports LB.ua.
"This is a powerful gesture of solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people, who continue to face persecution during Russia's temporary occupation of Crimea," he wrote. The minister emphasized that acknowledging this historical injustice is essential not only for establishing truth and justice but also for preventing future crimes.
Andrii Sybiha pointed out that the Netherlands has become the seventh country outside Ukraine to recognize this crime as genocide, urging all other nations to follow suit. The Verkhovna Rada has called upon the governments and parliaments of foreign states, international organizations, and parliamentary assemblies to honor the memory of the victims of the Crimean Tatar genocide. They are urged to recognize the 1944 deportation as an act of genocide and to unite in efforts to stop Russia's violations of the rights of the Crimean Tatars.
