On February 22, 2026, the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Council of Ukrainian Christian Churches of Washington State issued a statement.
"The past four years of Russia's full-scale invasion have been especially difficult for Ukrainians. Nevertheless, they have demonstrated to the entire world a key truth: the people of Ukraine are and will continue to exist as a sovereign nation and a society of free people," reads the Statement.
The document states that today, many Ukrainians cannot keep warm without heating amid severe frost, have no electricity to cook food, lack access to a reliable water supply, and are deprived of many basic, life-sustaining services:
"All of this is the consequence of the genocide that Russia continues to commit against the people of Ukraine, including through targeted aerial attacks on critical civilian infrastructure across the country."
The document states that Ukrainians continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience and to sustain their faith in victory, a just peace, and holding their oppressors accountable, because these days we see examples of true Christian love for one's neighbor, sincere mercy, mutual assistance, and unity.
"We call on the United States and every European nation to continue supporting the people of Ukraine, who are paying a great price — through the precious lives of tens of thousands of defenders and civilians — to contain Russian aggression and prevent the emergence of new centers of global war. We believe that God's truth, justice, and righteousness will ultimately prevail." These words conclude the Appeal of the Council of Ukrainian Christian Churches of Washington State on the 4th anniversary of the war.
