The Vatican is ready to act as a mediator in the event of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia and offers its territory as a neutral place for their holding.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing La Stampa.
According to the newspaper, The Vatican offers to involve other parties in the negotiations, including the United States and the European Union.
The Vatican's proposal became known after Pope Francis met with French President Emmanuel Macron on October 24.
The day before, Pope Francis said that he was struck by the cruelty with which the invaders were fighting in Ukraine since this trait is allegedly not inherent in the Russian people.
After this statement, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, presented Pope Francis with a fragment of a Russian mine that destroyed the facade of a church in the Kyiv region in March.
