Archbishop Herman of Chernivtsi and Khotyn of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church has said no candidate to the office of Primate of the future Ukrainian Local Orthodox Church will be submitted by the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

In a live broadcast on Hromadske, he said he was ready to vote for another candidate.

“Theoretically, every bishop can become the Primate (of the one local church - ed.). None of the bishops (of the UAOC), to begin with the primate of our Church, is going to stand for this office,” said Herman.

He also added that as of December 5, neither he nor the other bishops had received an invitation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Unification Council, which would elect the head of the Local Church.

Earlier, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko said that the Unification Council, which was to announce the creation of the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church, would be held on December 15.

The Council that will approve the Charter of the Ukrainian Church and elect the Primate, will be held in St Sophia Cathedral.
