UGCC Cathedral in Ternopil becomes a place for collecting and distributing medical aid for hospitals
These days, the main Cathedral of the UGCC of Ternopil became a place for collecting and distributing medical personal protective equipment and essential supplies for hospitals in the city. The rector of the Cathedral, Fr. Orest Pavlisky, with the blessing of Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ternopil and Zboriv Vasily Semenyuk, provided catechetical premises to an initiative group of young Ternopil bloggers who self-organized to help the city's medical staff.
According to the Department of Information of the UGCC, a group of concerned Ternopil residents, which includes a priest of the cathedral Fr Roman Demush, organized in the community @coronavirus.ternopil and launched a charity flashmob on the social network Instagram under the slogan #nikoronavirusu. In a few days, the young people managed to raise about 250,000 hryvnias, for which they purchased personal protective equipment and essential medical supplies for hospitals in the city. Thousands of people of good will joined the action of young people.
The initiative group of volunteers received from the dental clinic benefactor, Oleksiuk, a large number of medical masks and gloves, which the benefactor sent to the needs of the clergy and faithful of the parishes of the UGCC of Ternopil and the MDC "Zarvanytsia", aimed at carrying out pastoral activities in compliance with sanitary standards during the epidemic. The administration of the Archdiocese of Ternopil and Zboriv extends its sincere gratitude to the donor.
On March 22, the head of the UGCC, Patriarch Sviatoslav, assured that if necessary, the UGCC churches and their premises would become "Church hospitals" to help doctors during the epidemic.
