UGCC creates Patriarchal Council for Social Communications

On May 7, the Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church announced the creation of the Patriarchal Council for Social Communications of the UGCC. His Beatitude Svyatoslav was appointed its head, the Department of Information of the UGCC reports.

On May 7, the Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church announced the creation of the Patriarchal Council for Social Communications of the UGCC. His Beatitude Svyatoslav was appointed its head, the Department of Information of the UGCC reports.

The Council intends to provide communication support for the activities of the Head of the UGCC in carrying out the mission of the Church in Ukraine and in the world.

“In order to perform well the mission of bringing God's Word to the modern man, the Church cannot do without appropriate means of social communication. It has the right to use existing resources, to set up its own means, and use them. These means should help the clergy in their pastoral ministry and coverage of the activities of the Church,” the decree says.

The main tasks of the Council are to develop the strategic goals of communication of the UGCC, as well as to develop communication models for responding to crisis situations and challenges.

Members of the Patriarchal Council for Social Communications of the UGCC (for a term of five years) are: F. Ihor Yatsiv, Head of the Department of Information of the UGCC, Deputy Chairman of the Council; Fr. Andriy Maksymovych, administrator of the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC; Fr. Andrew Zelinsky, counselor of the Father and the Head of the UGCC on communication strategy; Fr. Andriy Soletsky, Head of the Secretariat of the Father and Head of the UGCC, Rome; and Ms. Sonya Southus.
