UGCC elects a new bishop

On October 27, the Vatican announced that the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC has elected father Mykola Semenyshyn as an assistant bishop of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese of the UGCC. The Holy Father Francis consented to this decision, appointing him the titular seat of Junka of Mauritania.

Biographical note

Born on May 29, 1982, in the village of Glyboke, Bohorodchany district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

He studied at the secondary schools of Glyboke and Bohorodchany, where in 1999, he received a full secondary education. In 1999-2005, he studied at the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Academy. In 2005-2008, he studied at the Pontifical Theresian University in Rome at the Faculty of Spiritual Theology, where he received the degree of licentiate of theology.

He was ordained a deacon on November 25, 2004, and a priest on May 29, 2005.

On April 8, 2008, he was appointed administrator of the parish of St. Michael in Porte (Diocese of Pinerolo, Italy). On October 19, 2009, he was appointed as a vicar of the parish of St. Verano in Abbadia Alpina in the same diocese.

On October 11, 2011, he was appointed vice-rector of the Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Seminary.

On August 1, 2013, he became the personal secretary of His Beatitude Lubomyr Husar. He performed this service until the Patriarch's repose in 2017.

Since September 1, 2017, he has been a confessor of the Kyiv Three Saints Theological Seminary.
