Ukrainain Greek Catholic Church Initiates Christmas Without Alcohol

Those who wish to join in this initiative will refrain from consuming alcohol from January 6 to 19, 2011.

The Patriarchal Commission on Matters of Youth of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has initiated New Year and Christmas celebrations without alcohol.  

As noted in the statement issued, Christmas is a favorite holiday for many people and everybody is waiting for the Christmas season, expecting something special. “Although quite often we forget the true meaning of this holiday, about the Person who is to be honored. People have created many traditions and forms of celebrating Christmas, but they must not forget to consider what God expects," reads the statement.

Those who wish to join in this initiative will refrain from consuming alcohol from January 6 to 19, 2011.
