Ukraine’s President Addresses Citizens on Day of Baptism of Rus

Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych says that prosperity and well-being of the Ukrainian society cannot be achieved only through economic growth and public unity. Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych says that prosperity and well-being of the Ukrainian society cannot be achieved only through economic growth and public unity. These important components of the country’s progress cannot be self-sufficient outside the high morality and spiritual development of the society, reads Yanukovych's address to the citizens of Ukraine on occasion of the Day od Baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine, the presidential press service reports.

The address notes that the holiday “is a gift from God and is celebrated on the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Prince Volodymyr Equal to the Apostles.”

Yanukovych said: “Faith has always been a life-giving force for our nation, which helped to stand firm and preserve our identity, enriched it with holiness of the spirit and charity. We are proud of our rich spiritual heritage, appreciate, revive and enlarge it. On this joyful day, I sincerely wish the believers peace, good, harmony, and spiritual inspiration in the service to the Lord. Let God keep us all and Ukraine!”
