Chaplain of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh, abbot of the OCU Platon (Roman Morgunov) was killed by Russian invaders in Volnovakha, Donetsk region, on March 11.

"A friend, a priest, and a warrior! He died defending our freedom, and his death pains me," wrote one of the brothers of the hieromonk chaplain on the social network Facebook.

According to lawyer Igor Chudovsky, the deceased was a spiritual mentor for many soldiers of the Ukrainian army.

Hieromonk Platon was a tonsured Monk of the St. Theodosius Monastery of the OCU in Kyiv, for some time served in the St. George monastery in the Virlya tract near the city of Kremenets, Ternopil region, then in the Vvedensky Monastery in the city of Sambir, Lviv region.

Hieromonk Platon is not the first priest of the OCU who was killed. On February 27, Russian aggressors shot another chaplain and rector of the church in the village of Rozvazhiv, Kyiv region – Fr. Maksym Kozachyna, and on March 5, in the village of Yasnogorodka, Kyiv region – Fr. Rostyslav Dudarenko was killed. A military chaplain of the OCU from the Odessa region, Fr. Vasyl Vyrozub, has been held captive by the Russian invaders since February 27.
