On February 19, 14 Ukrainian women whose relatives and loved ones are in Russian captivity met with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Pope Francis' special envoy for the return of Ukrainian children and prisoners of war.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the Vatican, Andrii Yurash, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“Cardinal Zuppi listened to each of the women with genuine sympathy and attention, who spoke about their own grief and tragedy, and unanimously asked for help to return from captivity or simply find out the fate of all the defenders of Ukraine,” he said.
Each of the women handed the Pope's representative a list with the names of the prisoners.
“These women brought an impressive mountain of papers and, with tears in their eyes, asked to pass them to the representatives of the aggressor country as soon as possible to see the return of all Ukrainian soldiers and civilians,” noted Yurash.
While addressing the Ukrainian women, Cardinal Zuppi noted that the war does not end when weapons fall silent, but when the last prisoner returns home.
