The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) believes that searches on the premises of the UOC-Moscow Patriarchate may "be discriminatory in nature."
This is stated in a report on the human rights situation in Ukraine for the six months to January 31, 2023, New Voice reports.
The report mentions that the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches in monasteries, offices, educational institutions and other properties of the UOC-MP in Kyiv, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, as well as in Cherkasy, Volyn, Kherson, Ternopil, Poltava and Transcarpathian regions.
The UN claims that in some cases, SBU officers interrogated clergymen using a polygraph.
"OHCHR is concerned that state actions against the UOC may be discriminatory. OHCHR also recalls the need to ensure that all persons charged with criminal charges enjoy the full range of proper rights to a fair trial," the UN said.
