UNESCO Examines Kyiv Churches

On November 1-4, a delegation of experts of UNESCO will visit Kyiv to assess the condition of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv and the Kyiv Cave Monastery as well as their buffer zones.

On November 1-4, a delegation of experts of UNESCO will visit Kyiv to assess the condition of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv and the Kyiv Cave Monastery as well as their buffer zones, reported representatives of the initiative "Save Old Kyiv" to www.liga.net

According to the activists, the experts who are to come to Kyiv will include Francesco Bandarin, the head of the World Heritage  Committee of UNESCO, and the deputy general director of that organization.

According to the representatives of the initiative, "it is the first delegation on matters of protecting cultural heritage of such a level to visit Kyiv."

The activists reminded that last summer in Brazil the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO discussed the question of the protection of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kyiv.
