Once Constantinople approves the decision to grant autocephaly, Ukraine will launch relevant procedures. Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate, Archbishop Yevstratiy (Zorya) told this to Channel 5.
He explained what exactly Kyiv intends to do: “In Ukraine, a council should be held with participation of the hierarchs who have appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarch with a request to grant the Tomos, and these are the hierarchs of the Kyiv Patriarchate, of the UOC, and the hierarchs of the Moscow Patriarchate who have signed this appeal, this Council has to proclaim the unification of the Ukrainian Church and, accordingly, elect the patriarch of the unified Church. After the Council is held, the Primate must receive this document from the hands of the Ecumenical Patriarch, and thus this stage will be completed.
