UOC-Kyivan Patriarchate Remembers Victims of WWII

On the Victory Day, on 9 May, Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine participated in the celebratory events in the capital.

On the Victory Day, on 9 May, Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine participated in the celebratory events in the capital. The patriarch accompanied by Bishop Yevstratii (Zoria) of Vasylkivskyi took part in the procession and attended a concert-meeting in Maidan [square] of Independence. The events were attended by Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych, Speaker V. Lytvyn, Premier M. Azarov, members of the government, people’s deputies, representatives of religious and public organizations, war veterans and military men.

On 9 May, Bishop Yevstratii served a memorial service at the People’s Memorial near the settlement of Koncha-Zaspa not far from Kyiv where nearly 600 perished soldiers, who participated in the defense of the capital in 1941 and its liberation in 1943, were reburied. The bishop greeted the veterans and all those present on occasion of the holiday and called them never to forget to mention in prayers those who perished in the war.
