The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has not extended the lease of the Chernihiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to the complex of ancient churches on the territory of the national architectural and historical reserve "Chernihiv the Ancient".
This is reported by Dumskaya.
Metropolitan Ambrose (Polikop) of Chernihiv and Novgorod-Seversk received a letter from the Ministry of Culture demanding to leave the complex of historical religious buildings by March 27.
It is referring to the Trinity Monastery of the XVII-XVIII centuries, the Yelets Monastery of the XII-XVII centuries and the Transfiguration Cathedral of the XI century, which the diocese previously occupied free of charge under lease agreements. The last time such documents were signed was in 2016, and their validity expired in September 2021, after which the Ministry of Culture refused to continue such charity in relation to the clergy of the Moscow-affiliated church.
