All sessions of the United States Congress begin with a prayer that regularly mentions Ukraine, even when the meeting topic does not concern our state.

The journalist and reporter of the Ukrainian office of the Voice of America in Washington, Kateryna Lisunova, wrote about this on her Facebook page, according to the Spiritual Front of Ukraine.

"I'm currently working as a congressional correspondent for the Voice of America. And so I often listen to meetings of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Interestingly, all meetings of Congress begin with a prayer. And even more interesting is that at least several times a week, they must pray for Ukraine before the start of the hearing. Regardless of whether the Ukrainian issue is on the lawmakers' schedule or not," the journalist wrote and illustrated the message with a video from last Wednesday's meeting, where the U.S. House of Representatives prays for the difficult challenges Ukraine faces.

It is noteworthy that the traditional prayer before the meeting of the Congress is read by the Chaplain of the House of Representatives, Margaret Kibben, a Presbyterian clergywoman who, from 2010 to 2014, was the 18th Chaplain of the U.S. Marine Corps (CHMC) and Deputy Chief of Chaplains of the U.S. Navy, and from 2014 to 2018 served as the 26th Chief Chaplain of the U.S. Navy.

The text of the prayer was translated by another Facebook user Svitlana Pavlenko, noting: "Maybe when you are now sitting in the cold, without light and heat, you will feel a little warmer in your heart."

Prayer of the U.S. House of Representatives, translated by Svitlana Pavlenko:

We continue to pray, and we remain with the same commitment, the same passion, the same readiness to defend Freedom and Sovereignty, Peace and Justice from modern enemies.

We need to look around the globe to see a reprise of the irrational arrogance that threatens Ukraine. We support the Ukrainian people in their determination and a firm commitment to stand up to their oppressors during this sad period of its history.

O Lord, Judge among nations! Settle the disputes of your people! And let them turn their weapons into tools that will cultivate the land, not destroy it, let their weapons be given to tools of diplomacy and stability.

And on this day, may we be inspired to leave our wars and honor those who came before us with a new devotion to peace in the salvation that can only be found in Your name, we pray.

Amen
