U.S. Greek Catholics raise over $11 million for Ukrainians in 1000 days of the war

The Healing of Wounds of the War in Ukraine Fund, which unites the charitable activities of the four dioceses of the UGCC Philadelphia Metropolitanate, has become an important tool for providing assistance in times of war. Thanks to the donors' generosity, $11,103,260 was raised in 2022-2024.

This was reported by the fund “The Healing of Wounds of the War in Ukraine,” the Information Department of the UGCC reports.

According to Bishop Borys Gudziak, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Philadelphia, “the Humanitarian Fund of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the United States, established by four Ukrainian Catholic dioceses, received $9 million in donations in 2022 and 2023, which were distributed to support 103 projects, mainly in Ukraine, but also in Western Europe and the United States to help refugees.”

Key achievements:

- $9,532,260 raised in 2022-2023 through the Metropolitanate Humanitarian Aid Fund and two subordinate funds.

- $1,571,000 raised in 2024 to support projects aimed at healing the wounds of war.

- 169 projects supported, including the provision of medical supplies, rehabilitation, assistance to IDPs, and support for military chaplains.

Financial assistance:

- More than 20,000 IDPs received humanitarian aid.

- 15 hospitals were supported with medical equipment, and over 11,000 tourniquets and 13,000 hemostatic bandages were delivered.

- 4 religious orders and 3 shelters for IDPs funded.

The Healing of Wounds of the War in Ukraine Fund was established in January 2024 by the UGCC Metropolitanate of Philadelphia as a continuation of the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the United States. Its goal is to provide immediate assistance to heal the physical, emotional and spiritual wounds caused by the war in Ukraine.
