Zelensky posthumously confers the order on Bishop Milan Shashik

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree to award the Order of Merit II Degree posthumously to Bishop Milan Shashik of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Mukachevo.

This was reported by the website of the Head of State.

The award was given for many years of fruitful pastoral service, church and charity work.

“The ruling Bishop of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Mukachevo, Milan Shashik, died on July 14, 2020, at the age of 68. His Grace was actively engaged in the development of Church life in Transcarpathia. Hundreds of churches, parochial houses, and pastoral centers were built and consecrated through his efforts. He has trained a new generation of diocesan priests.

Owing to the efforts of Milan Shashik, the Uzhgorod Cathedral, the historical residence of Greek Catholic bishops, and the Uzhgorod Greek Catholic Theological Academy were restored.

Bishop Milan spoke many languages and was known as an authoritative and charismatic leader and spiritual guide,” the decree reads.
