The president of Ukraine has put into effect NSDC sanctions against ex-MP Vadym Novynsky, abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Metropolitan Pavlo and a number of representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. Decree No. 43/2023 was published on the president's website.

This is reported by Glavkom.

"Support the proposals made by the Security Service of Ukraine to amend personal Special Economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)," the decree says.

The supplement clarifies that now a full sanctions package of 14 types of restrictions imposed for a period of five years is being introduced against Lebed, Novynsky, and other persons who were included in the "church sanctions list" in December. Previously, only 12 types of restrictions were applied against these individuals.

The list of restrictions was expanded to include a complete ban on transactions in securities issued by persons subject to sanctions, as well as cancellation of official visits, meetings and negotiations on the conclusion of contracts or agreements.

As reported, on December 2, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions against clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, including the abbot of the Kyiv Cave Monastery, Pavlo (Lebed), and former MP Vadym Novynsky.

Later it became known that Novynsky challenges the decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who imposed sanctions on certain clergy representatives, including him.

Earlier it became known that after the first rocket attacks on Kyiv on the night of February 24, businessman and politician Vadym Novynsky contacted the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, by phone to tell him that war had broken out. However, then the leader of the Russian Church did not believe that the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine.

We also recall that during the Revolution of Dignity, the then MP Petro Poroshenko, in the presence of other persons, called Vadim Novinsky an "Orthodox bitch" for promoting the interests of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
