During the annual religious pilgrimage of Hasidic Jews to Uman, Cherkaska Oblast, in September, more than 400 police officers will maintain public order.

According to the Office of Public Affairs of Ukraine, Deputy Interior Minister Viktor Ratushniak said this at a meeting with Ambassador of Israel to Ukraine Reuven Dinel and Security Attache at the Israeli Embassy = in Ukraine Roi Alkorat.

From September 4 to 6 in Uman, the Hasidim will hold annual religious events at the grave of Rabbi Nachman and in the local synagogue to celebrate Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).

According Ratushniak, the cooperation between the Ukrainian and Israeli police will play an important role in maintaining order during the events. In 2012, 12 police officers from Israel worked together with the Ukraine police to oversee the religious events in Uman. “I want to express confidence in the continuation of fruitful cooperation this year and the implementation of more effective control over the situation during the Hasidic pilgrims’ stay on the country’s territory,” said Ratushnaik, UNIAN reported.
