47 Opposition Bloc MPs ask court to recognize Parliament’s Appeal on Tomos as unconstitutional

47 MPs appealed to the Constitutional Court requesting to recognize as illegal the decision of the Verkhovna Rada which supported the appeal of President Petro Poroshenko for granting the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The submission of the MPs is registered on the court website. This is reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC that cited news.liga.net.

“The support of this appeal by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine... reduces religious freedom and interdenominational peace in Ukraine, violates the rights and freedoms of citizens, in particular the constitutional right to freedom of opinion and religion, and is a direct interference of the state in church affairs,” the statement reads.

The document was presented by authorized MPs Vadym Novinsky and Oleksandr Dolzhenkov. Most of those who signed it are members of the Opposition Bloc faction.
