On June 2, a missile exploded during the Corpus Christi procession in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Odesa. The procession was taking place inside the church. At that moment, an air raid alert was raised.

When the procession approached the last altar and Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradiuk of Odesa and Simferopol was blessing the faithful with the Blessed Sacrament and the words "May the blessing of Almighty God the Father descend upon you, protect your lives, workplaces, and homes," an explosion occurred. This moment was captured by a camera during an online broadcast from the cathedral.
The faithful remained calm: the bishop did not interrupt the blessing and held the service to the end. An air raid alert was announced due to the launch of a ballistic missile from the territory of Crimea at Odesa. A few minutes later, an explosion was heard in the city. According to local media, the shelling of civilian objects damaged the port infrastructure.
Interestingly, the next missile launched by the Russian army toward Odesa on the night of June 3 did not reach the city and fell into the sea. As reported, the guided missile that attacked the Odesa region lost its combat capability in the Black Sea.
In total, last week, Russia launched nearly 1,000 attacks with missiles of various types, bombs, and drones on Ukraine.
