06 December, 11:10

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Paul Richard Gallagher.

The diplomats discussed the release of Ukrainians from Russian captivity, Ukrinform reports, citing Sibiha's post on the social network X.

The meeting took place during a meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Malta.

"I reported on Russia's attacks on our people and civilian infrastructure. We discussed further humanitarian efforts to free more of our people from Russian captivity," the Foreign Minister said.

As RISU previously reported, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States and International Organizations, spoke at a conference on the Ukrainian "peace formula" in Montreal. The summit, held on October 30 and 31, 2024, discussed the fourth point of the "formula" - the release of all prisoners and deportees.

Archbishop Gallagher noted that this is the mission the Holy See has been pursuing since the beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine, having received numerous requests for such mediation from the Ukrainian authorities.
