Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti to visit Avdiyivka

On February 14-15, 2017, Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti together with Bishop Jan Sobilo, President of the Technical Committee of Initiative “The Pope For Ukraine” are visiting Avdiyivka and other neighboring settlements of Donetsk region recently affected by shelling. His Excellency will arrive in Donetsk region in order to witness the solidarity, prayer, and blessing of Pope Francis to people who have experienced enormous suffering, being deprived of water, light, and livelihood in the conditions of extreme cold.

The Apostolic Nuncio plans to meet with the children evacuated to Sviatohirsk, the affected persons who stay in the central hospital of Avdiyivka, teachers of destroyed schools and local authorities. The Vatican Ambassador to Ukraine will also visit the center of psychosocial support and recovery of children.

Jointly with the Committee of humanitarian Initiative “The Pope For Ukraine,” the representative of the Holy Father Francis is set to sign the Agreement to implement the project of immediate emergency aid, for which Pope Francis has donated 200 thousand euros to support one thousand children and three hundred adults affected by recent attacks in the region.
