The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has agreed to establish an inter-confessional cooperation for the development of a network of general education schools founded by churches and religious organizations.
The topics of education and moral education of children, as well as the elimination of all boarding schools for orphans in favor of family-type orphanages, became key during a meeting of the AUCCRO on October 22, held under the chairmanship of the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine, Yakov Dov Bleich, according to the Institute of Religious Freedom.
According to the chairman of the AUCCRO, the legislation of Ukraine opened the door not only for the establishment by the religious organizations of private schools but also for the financing of such educational institutions at the expense of the state within the limits of the state educational standard. Therefore, according to Rabbi Bleich, in order to further improve the Ukrainian society, efforts should be made to ensure that children from the believers’ families can obtain high-quality education along with high moral education on the basis of religious values.
According to the decision of the heads of faiths, the Secretariat of the AUCCRO will develop a list of proposals that will be submitted to the Minister of Education and Science during a meeting scheduled for November.
Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on the rights of the child Mykola Kuleba told participants in detail about the problems of orphanhood.
This topic will be the subject of a separate forum to be held in Kyiv on November 11 with the participation of representatives of the Council of Churches and many other public institutions.
In addition, members of the AUCCRO decided to focus more on the development of peaceful inter-confessional relations and interaction in the regions. To this end, the next meeting of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations will be held off-premise, in the city of Ternopil.
