Bishop Kava on the shelling of Lviv: The demon's convulsions show that war has a spiritual dimension

05.09.2024, 17:00

On the night of September 4, 2024, during a massive missile attack on Ukraine, Russia struck Lviv. Several missiles, including Kinzhal (“Dagger”) hypersonic missiles, hit residential areas of the city. Seven people were killed, including three children. At least 38 others were wounded, 10 remain in serious condition.

In a commentary for CREDO, Auxiliary Bishop Eduard Kava of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine emphasized that such tragic events indicate that this war is also taking place on the spiritual battlefield.

'Recently, we have been experiencing an increase in military aggression on the part of the Russian Federation. Civilian infrastructure and civilians are increasingly being targeted. It happened in Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy; and it happened last night in Lviv. The enemy is targeting children's hospitals, educational institutions, and residential buildings. Yet, these convulsions of the demon that has possessed our enemies show us that this war also has a spiritual dimension.

Therefore, we must not give up or get discouraged. On the contrary, we should pray even more, stay in sanctifying grace, and pray for all our cities and villages, especially those close to the front line and those that are subject to daily missile attacks, in order to resist the devil demonstrating his anger and aggression through the Russian Federation.

For us, as believers, such events are a clear sign that now we especially need to continue to pray and support each other so that no one feels left alone with the misery and grief the war has brought.'
