“Our sympathy is on the side of the many brave people who take a large risk to openly express their desire for freedom and justice,” says the head of the German Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, in a letter published December 16 in Bonn addressed to head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk. The Catholic bishops expressed their support “to all people of good will who work for the peaceful resolution of the conflict, which split the society and threatens to divide the country.”

For several weeks in the center of Kyiv Ukrainians have been protesting the government and its refusal to sign an Association Agreement with the EU. Ukrainian Churches support the demonstrators.
