Book on history of Greek Catholic Church in Kyiv region published

Svichado Publishing House has published the first edition of the Archive of the Ukrainian Church on the history of the Uniate (Greek Catholic) Church in the Kyiv region in the end of the 16th to the middle of the 19th centuries.

Svichado Publishing House has published the first edition of the Archive of the Ukrainian Church on the history of the Uniate (Greek Catholic) Church in the Kyiv region in the end of the 16th to the middle of the 19th centuries.
 
The articles were written by historians of the leading research institutions of Kyiv, Lviv, Drohobych and Vinnytsia on the basis of familiar sources and newly found archive documents. The articles deal with a complex of issues connected with the activity of the Uniates in the region.
 
The subjects of the research include the religious, spiritual and educational mission of the Basilian monks, sponsorship of secular nobility, experience of the coexistence of the Orthodox and Uniates under the Russian Empire, etc.
 
The authors pay special attention to the problems of interdenominational conflicts at the time of the Koliivshchyna uprising, analyze their causes and the position and policies of the Union Church at the time of the struggle of the Ukrainian Cossacks for an independent state in the middle of the 17th century.

The edition includes 9 articles:

7.        L. Tymoshenko. The residence of the Kyivan Metropolitanates in Radomyshl of Kyiv region (history of the structures of the Uniate Churches in the 18th century.)
8.        B. Khikhlach. History of Basilian Monasteries in Bratslav region in the 18th-beginning of the 19th century.
9.        V. Los. Social basis of the Greek-Uniate Church in Kyiv region: the myths of Russian and Soviet historiography and historic realia (first part of the 19th century).
