Burial Shroud of Mother of God Arrives in Ukraine

On 19 September, at 2 pm, the Holy Burial Shroud of the Mother of God will be transported to the Kyiv Cave Monastery from Gethsemane in Jerusalem.

On September 19, the Holy Burial Shroud of the Mother of God will be transported to the Kyiv Cave Monastery from Gethsemane in Jerusalem.

According to an official letter received by Metropolitan Volodymyr, the shrine of World’s Orthodoxy will stay in Ukraine from September 19 to October 19, 2012.

The letter from Patriarch Theophilus III of Jerusalem was received in answer to an address of  the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church- Moscow Patriarchate to the head of the Jerusalem Church with the request to give his blessing for the shrine to come to Ukraine “in order for the Ukrainian people to be able to bow down to it and receive spiritual strength.”   

Patriarch Theophilus III gave his blessing to a month-long stay of the shrine in Ukraine.

The visitation is organized with the support of the Institute of Human Rights and Prevention of Extremism and Xenophobia.

The burial shroud of the Holy Mother of God has been preserved and is kept in Jerusalem, on the right side of the altar of the Church of the Convent of Gethsemane in front of the Holy Sepulchre Church, Orthodoxy.org.ua reported.
